Detroit Grand Prix Weekend: Plan Ahead for a Smooth Trip to the Detroit–Windsor Tunnel

The roar of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix is returning to downtown Detroit, bringing race fans, visitors, and exciting event activity to the heart of the city. During Grand Prix weekend, the Detroit–Windsor Tunnel will remain open, with access maintained from I-375 for Tunnel traffic.

The 2026 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix is scheduled for May 29–31, 2026, with activities taking place throughout downtown Detroit. As in previous years, drivers should expect road closures, traffic controls, and increased vehicle and pedestrian activity before, during, and after the event as crews complete setup, race operations, and post-event removal.

The Detroit–Windsor Tunnel will remain open throughout all Grand Prix activities and during race weekend. Customers traveling to the Tunnel should follow posted signs, allow extra travel time, and use the access routes available from I-375.

To assist customers traveling through the downtown area, the Detroit–Windsor Tunnel has prepared a printable placard that may be displayed in a vehicle window to help identify the driver as a Tunnel customer when approaching traffic control points.

Drivers should print the placard before travelling, place it where it can be easily seen, and continue to follow all instructions from law enforcement, traffic control personnel, and posted signage. Customers are also encouraged to check current traffic conditions before departing, as local conditions may change throughout the event weekend.
The Detroit–Windsor Tunnel is proud to keep cross-border travel moving during one of Detroit’s signature downtown events. Whether you are traveling for work, visiting family, attending the Grand Prix, or crossing between Detroit and Windsor, planning ahead will help make your trip smoother from start to finish.
